The dark skies of the Alabama Hills located near Lonepine California is the perfect venue to welcome the 2022 Milky Way Season. This workshop is scheduled during the new moon when the sky will be filled with brilliant stars.
The emphasis during the workshop will be on photographing landscapes by day and night. In this workshop you will learn tips for daylight and dusk photography, proper exposure techniques for Raw or jpeg, and how to use neutral density filters to improve your photography. Composition and technique will be taught throughout the day.
Night and Milky Way Photography – During the workshop you will learn to prepare and setup a camera for night shooting, how to paint with light as well as proper exposure for a starry night sky and the Milky Way.
The Workshop Fee Includes 2.5 days/3 nights of classroom and field instruction.
Lodging, meals, transportation, and park entrance fees (when applicable) are not included in the workshop fee. You are free to stay anywhere in the Lone Pine Area.
Dow Villa Hotel: I have reservations at the Dow Villa Hotel. This is where we will meet for presentations and critique sessions. The Hotel is holding 8 rooms for the workshop until January 27. Upon registration you will receive information for making reservations at the hotel.
The workshop is limited to 8 photographers and is open to photographers of all levels; beginning to advanced (You must be at least 18 years of age).
Physical Requirements: Much of this workshop will take place in the field and although the locations we will photograph are easily accessible from the road, you should be prepared to walk up to 1 mile on moderate terrain in the daylight and after dark. Good health and fitness will help maximize your experience. Please contact Paul if you have any concerns regarding the level of physical activity involved in the workshop.
Cancellation Policy
Putting on a workshop takes a lot of time and research, not to mention a significant amount of money for permits, fees and insurance. For peace of mind you may want to purchase travel insurance. The insurance usually costs around 4-5% of the trip cost. If the workshop is canceled for any reason you will receive a full refund.
- Cancellation made more than 90 days prior to the workshop is fully refundable.
- Cancellation between 90 and 45 days prior to the workshop is refundable less $450 fee.
- The fee will be reduced to a $50.00 Administration Charge if we can fill your space.
- Cancellation 45 days or less before the workshop is non-refundable unless we fill your space.
- If we can fill your space you will receive a refund less a $50.00 Administration fee.
