Composition
“There is only the frame. That is our craft. Painting with light, in slivers of time, within the frame of our image.” David duChemin
A Photographic composition is the arrangement of visual elements and as such is the product of a photographer’s vision.
In this lesson we will be working on developing the skills needed to see, identify, arrange, and frame the final image.
When you take a photograph you do so for a reason. Consciously or unconsciously you have chosen a subject or a point of interest. In your mind you have also identified a mood or feeling you want to convey. The right composition can help to emphasize what you have envisioned.
Using various principles of composition allows you to organize everything within the frame so that:
- Your intended subject is emphasized
- Your image attracts the viewer’s attention and
- finally keeps them interested in the photograph
