Automatic VS Advanced Exposure Modes
Whether you choose to shoot in the Automatic modes or Advanced modes it all boils down to:
Ease of use VS Control
In the camera Auto and Scene modes the camera is making almost all of the decisions for you. Your job then is to compose the image and click the shutter.
Often however, we have a vision of how we want the image to look. Landscape photographer Ansel Adams talked about “pre-visualization” or visualizing the final image. Although many photographers do not always consciously pre-visualize they are aware of the mood or feeling they want to express in the final image as they are taking it.
The camera is unable to read our minds and although it produces a “correct” image it may not produce the mood, colors, action or feelings you wish to convey. The advanced modes give you more control over the final photograph to allow you to create the image that matches your vision.
The advanced modes are Program, Aperture priority, Shutter priority and Manual. We will be talking about each of these modes in the next four lessons.
